For starters steel is a stronger metal, therefore a stronger security door. The main differences is with a steel security door and a aluminum security door is that the corners of the door are welded together forming a one piece design where in the case of a aluminum security door they are held together with a metal corner stake and riveted together. This process is still satisfactory but welding the corners is better. Also a steel security door has structural steel bars welded across it, every steel door has a center cross rail to strengthen the two side styles (to prevent jemmying) to protect the lock from attack.

Steel Security Doors being fully welded mean that there is no twisting effect better rigidity; this is to stop potential burglars from grabbing the bottom of the door and basically bending it straight up. The way to stop this from happening in a aluminum security door is to fit it with a triple locking mechanism (one in the middle one at top and one at bottom all activated from the center) A aluminum security door is still a quite affective security door, the Australian standard is based around it but I think and believe a steel security door is better!!! Hopefully this is helpful.
Security Door Designs
Security doors come in many different styles, colors; mesh options and locking types, which one is the one for me?
The best way to decide; stand at the front of your house not at the door way take in all of the house the windows the colors the shapes even the landscape (grassy area, paved area, uphill, downhill even the angle that you see the doorway from) it’s very important to best fit your house not the house down the road, a lot of people fall into the trap of copying, their door might suit their house but not suit yours. One of the more important things is the lines of the house vertical, horizontal or diagonal this will help cut out at least fifty percent of patterns next is to decide whether you want scroll’s to suit wrought iron styling or whether you are looking for a clean modern style, this again should be a lot easier now that your standing at the front of your house and not at the doorway.
Match what you see or are going see if you making changes on your home ie renovating.
I have found the hardest part of choosing the right security door is the color!!! The normal rule of thumb is to match the colour of your windows as they are what most people choose as their important color. Never make the security door and the mesh the same color as in my option it looks 'horrible' no differentiation, same, the pattern of your security door is an important feature of the front facade of your home if you follow this guide that is. This is why I'm sharing my experience with you so you can get it right the first time, hope this helps you.
